Smart Canada - Smart City Projects

Smart Canada is a Smart City Project which will challenge urbanites to rethink many aspects of city-life in unique and useful ways. The initiative starts from reclaiming neglected urban spaces and make them usable again to addressing urban problems like noise pollution. They also want to provide a platform to share ideas that will contribute to make our cities more enjoyable to live in.

A few days ago they unveiled the first major element in a multi-faceted initiative that is designed to make our cities more functional and more beautiful for its inhabitants. The Callaghan Alleyway will introduce this transformative project. They transformed this unfriendly stretch of roadway to a bright and pleasing short-cut lined with installations from local artists.  It will also feature an interactive bicycle wheel wall that can convert physical input into power. This power will illuminate the alleyway while also charging mobile devices or smartphones.

The Smart City Project from Smart Canada will consist of many different small projects that will combine to improve urban environment. So one of them is this alleyway beautification project. Other projects are for example prominent transit shelter displays and wild postings that are meant to engage citizens and urge them to share ideas about how to make their city life better.Ideas can be shared on the website of the Smart City
